Dearest Friends & Fans,
I have some pretty exciting news to share with you.
As some of you already know, I've been in Los Angeles quite a bit the
last several months working on a brand new CD. I have just signed with
an extraordinary label, Resonance Records, for a multi-CD deal. Although
the label is relatively new, I'm so impressed with the level of commitment,
depth of understanding and generosity of it's owner, George Klabin, that
I'm certain Resonance will soon be among the finest recording stables
for jazz musicians anywhere. George has created an amazing opportunity
for artists like myself and I am fortunate to be performing on a CD, to
be released in the fall, entitled "Music of Djavan" featuring
such superb artists as pianist Tamir Hendelman with the Clayton-Hamilton
Jazz Orchestra in L.A., bassist David Enos, and drummer Enzo Todesco.
George Klabin and his team are going to promote this CD in Japan, Europe,
South America, and of course the US. After many years, I am with an organization
that combines all the best of the previous ones- the finest recording
environment, technical expertise and production values from start to finished
CD...with wonderful moral and artistic support and abundant resources.
Such a blessing!
Look for articles in the major jazz magazines about Resonance Records.
There is a big one coming out in Downbeat promoting a new release with
pianist John Beasley and Christian McBride tribute to Herbie Hancock called
"Letter to Herbie ".
Last month, piano legend Mike Garson released his first CD on Resonance
called "Conversations With My Family". I am honored to be featured
on one track on this new CD and also, a track on the bonus DVD which is
a live concert we gave in L.A. at George Klabins studio with drummer Peter
Erskin, and bassist Dave Carpenter.
Other artists and new CD's coming out on Resonance Records are - L.A.
pianist Bill Cunliff,
N.Y. trumpeter Claudio Roditi, L.A. pianist Roger Kellaway, Brazilian
guitar legend Toninho Horta....
just to name a few.
The company is looking to book their artists for jazz festivals all over
the world - currently they are working on booking me at the Munich Jazz
Festival in 09.
One more thing about the label. George Klabin recently bought a 6,000
ft. venue in Los Angeles for concerts and CD releases. It is currently
being renovated.....I'm sure this will be among the most sought after
locations in L.A. for musicians to perform when the renovation is complete.
In the meantime, as most of you know, I put out a CD in 2002 titled "Lori
Bell" on a small label called Beezwax Records. Next month I have
a brand new CD, (my last with the label now that I'm with Resonance),
called "Higher Standards". This CD features guitarist Ron Satterfield
and percussionist Kevin Koch. More on this when it comes out.
Several of you have inquired why I'm not playing with Ron Satterfield
anymore. Ron moved to Arizona for a while to do production work, something
he is very good at and hopefully will lead to more production opportunities
for him.
Finally, as you know, I'm playing at the most wonderful venue called
The Grand Del Mar every Friday. If you haven't checked it out yet you
really must come out one night. I'm there with guitar genius Joey Carano
and bassist extraordinaire Rob Thorsen.
I'm always thankful for your support.
I hope to see you soon.
Best Wishes,
Lori

which included a number of original compositions. Again, her work was

In 2002, Lori released another album titled "Lori Bell". This
work was enthusiastically received by the Grammy Awards and was nominated
in five categories including Best Instrumental Arrangement, Best Composition
and Best Instrumental Solo.

LORI BELL RECEIVES ENDORSEMENT FROM PEARL FLUTES
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Beezwax Friends and Acquaintances,
I remember a phase in Jr. High School when I wanted to purchase a flute
and learn to play it well. It was mostly Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull who
caused such a wild thought. But the price for the instrument was too high
as far as the family budget was concerned. Besides, I already had work
ahead as an aspiring percussionist. (My mastery of percussion eventually
excelled to the extent that I could play the first six notes of "Jingle
Bells" upon virtually any object with my bare knuckles, and it has
not diminished since.)
At about the same time as my "flute phase" another young lady
had already taken this silver wind instrument to a level of musicality
that escapes a good many players to this day; Lori Bell. Never in all
my days did I dream that Lori's first solo CD release would end up on
this tiny record label called Beezwax. Everything about it bespeaks excellence
and a dedication to musical expression that is not at all cheap or easy
to find.
We wanted to let you know that Lori recently received an endorsement from
Pearl Flutes. This is no small accomplishment. Pearl is recognized as
a leader in flute design, manufacturing, and quality. Believe me, the
endorsement is well-deserved. Lori is a musician of uncompromising enthusiasm
and excellence. She happens also to be a delightful individual altogether.
Please join us in a round of applause, a tip of the hat, a slug from the
mug, and hearty congratulations to Lori.
Thank you!

Dear Friends & Fans,
It's Super Bowl weekend and everyone is into it but me...oh well, I just
don't get it, but for those of you who do I hope you have a wonderful
time.
Next Saturday, February 1st, our trio INTERPLAY is back up in the Los
Angeles area at the New York Grill for our monthly gig with pianist Dave
Mackay. Ron & I look forward to this immensely. We have been recording
these gigs at the Grill and have decided to put out another CD called
INTERPLAY LIVE. Of course when it's all said and done I will let you know
and we'll have a big party. For our fans in L.A. the gig is from 8:30pm
until 11:30pm. For more information the phone is (909)-987-1928.
Another gig that might interest folks who live in north county is on Thursday
February 6th at noon. This one is at Palomar College with just me and
Ron Satterfield playing duets. This will be held in the music dept. in
room D-10.
If you like orchestral music and don't mind hopping over the border, I
will be playing first flute with a wonderful symphony orchestra at the
Cultural Center in Tijuana. The concerts are on Monday February 24th and
Tuesday the 24th. Tickets can be purchased at the Cultural Center. The
music is Beethoven's ninth symphony. This is a stretch for me but I truly
love it.
Next month we have a recital at State University, a concert at Dizzy's
and a few other things I'll let you know of as we get closer.
Hope to see you soon.
Warmest Regards,
Lori Bell

on it). Over the past 20 years Ive recorded several CDs on
